Reviews help customers decide between you and a competitor, and they are one of the things Google looks at for local results. The good news is that most happy customers are willing to leave one. They just need to be asked.
Ask at the right moment
The best time is right after a good experience: the job is finished, the customer has said thank you, or the problem has been fixed. Waiting weeks makes people less likely to respond.
Make it easy
Send a direct link to your Google review form, or show a QR code on an invoice, business card or receipt. Every extra step loses people.
Ask in the way that suits you
- In person, at the end of a job.
- By text message or WhatsApp with the review link.
- By email after a service, with a short, friendly message.
Do not offer rewards
Google does not allow you to offer discounts, gifts or other incentives in exchange for reviews. Do not buy reviews or write your own either.
Do not filter who you ask
Asking only customers you expect to be happy, and steering unhappy ones elsewhere, is called review gating and is against Google's policies. Ask everyone the same way.
Reply to every review
Thank people who leave good reviews. For negative ones, stay calm, apologize where it is fair, and offer to fix the problem offline. Future customers read your replies as much as the reviews.
Keep it steady
A regular flow of recent reviews looks more trustworthy than a large batch that arrived a year ago. Make asking part of how you finish every job.
